By Libya Herald reporter.

Tunis, 20 October 2015:

The Justice and Construction Party (J&C), widely seen as the political arm of the Muslim . . .[restrict]Brotherhood, has called on the General National Congress (GNC) to approve the UN-brokered Libya Dialogue agreement and the Government of National Accord (GNA) announced by UN Special Envoy Bernardino Leon.

In a statement signed by its leader Mohamed Sawan, it has said that the GNC should agree to Leon’s draft issued on 8 October.

The House of Representatives (HoR) has rejected that particular draft, insisting that the only one acceptable is the one initialled in Skhirat on 11 July.

Sawan was one of those who endorsed it at the time.

The J&C also said that all top military positions should become vacant immediately on the deal being approved and new officials should be then appointed by the Presidency Council.

Under the 8 October Draft, it is has six members – the Prime Minister, three deputy prime ministers and two ministers: the Minister for the Presidency and Legislation Affairs, and the Minister for Specialised Councils Affairs.

The demand is clearly directed at removing Khalifa Hafter, a bête noire for the Brotherhood and members of the GNC.

The J&C also said in its statement that no decisions should be valid unless approved unanimously by the prime minister and all three deputy premiers.

It further demanded there be an explicit clarification of the word “terrorism”.

There was implicit criticism of GNC president Nuri Abu Sahmain. It had to start acting responsibly, it said, and accept the Dialogue agreement. [/restrict]
