Reports of clashes near Sirte denied
Sirte, 9 January 2013:
The commander of Zawia Martyrs Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Buhaliga, has denied reports of clashes between his forces and members of the Libya Shield in the area of Khashoum Alkhail, some 90 kilometers south of Sirte.
He told the Libyan news agency LANA that the news published by some media outlets was incorrect and was aimed at spreading instability inside the country.
He said that information had been received about a armed men in the area of Khashoum Alkhail and that a force from Zawia Martyrs battalion as well as an infantry unit went to the place. There they found troops sent by the General Staff to collect ammunition left by former regime forces. There were discussions with them and help was provided to collect the ammunition, he said.
