In his brief welcoming address at yesterday’s opening, attended by about two hundred people, Mohamed Benras Ali, Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics, said that the event “was an important occasion and event for the sector in Libya to get to know and meet international companies and keep up with the latest developments”.

“We are keen that the private sector plays its role in this sector”, Ali added, in a tacit acknowledgement to the fact that the telecommunications sector in Libya is virtually monopolized by the state – a legacy of the 42 year Qaddafi era.
