Car explosion in Beida

Benghazi, 8 February 2013:

A car bomb exploded in Beida early this evening near the headquarters of one of the town’s security support groups.

Three people were reported to have been slightly hurt in the explosion which also damaged two cars and shattered glass in a nearby building.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

There have been allegations of militants infiltrating Beida but nothing has been confirmed. There is, though, a strong undercurrent of federalist support in the town. Nonetheless, it is also the home of Interior Minister Ashour Shuwail and he enjoys widespread respect there.
