Tripoli, 16 May 2013:
Sirte Local Council’s Finance Committee, in charge of compensations, started today the distribution of financial compensation by handing-out . . .[restrict]556 bank cheques at an estimated value of more than LD 10.5 million.
This financial compensation is being paid to citizens of Sirte whose houses were damaged during the liberation war.
The president of Sirte’s Local Council, Abdel-Fattah Mohamed Abdel Fattah said that a large amount of these distributed cheques will be paid to several families residing within regions of the various Steering Councils of Sirte, such as, Sirte’s Centre, Ribat, Saffron, Sirte’s Gulf and Sirte’s Second residential district.
He explained in a statement to the Libya’s official news agency LANA, that Sirte’s Local Council Finance Committee in charge of financial compensations is currently processing large numbers of bank cheques and that in two days’ time a further 400 or more bank cheques will be paid out to citizens whose homes were damaged.
Sirte’s Local Council media official said that the number of bank cheques that have been handed-out so far, and that were approved by the Ministry of Housing and Utilities, are estimated at more than 3,400 for the first and second lists.
The total approved list totals 4,258 damaged houses. The overall number of houses believed to have been affected during the liberation war is 10,200 in total. [/restrict]
