Zeidan again refutes accusations of Qatar interference

By Ahmed Elumami.

Tripoli, 19 May 2013:

The Prime Minister has denied today that Qatar has had any role in Libya’s present political . . .[restrict]instability.

”I investigated this issue personally and I had discovered that Qatar was not involved in any kind of intervention in Libya to destabilise security,” Ali Zeidan said at a press conference today in the Prime Ministry.

Claims that Qatar is interfering in Libya’s affairs have been growing in recent weeks. Ten days ago, Qatari flags were burned in Benghazi and Tobruk when demonstrators accused the Gulf state of supporting militias who had been besieging the Foreign and Justice ministries in Tripoli. There were again fresh anti-Qatar protests in Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata and other towns after last week’s Benghazi explosion.

The instability, said Zeidan today, was not the doing of Qatar but of a number of Libyans who were betraying the country.

A week ago Zeidan met with the Qatari ambassador to Libya, Sheikh Mohammed bin Nasser Al Thani, to assure him that the Libyan government did not believe the allegations.

The ambassador had earlier issued a statement rejected them accusations.

Qatar was one of the first Arab states to support the revolution. The Qaddafi media tried to discredit it, claiming that it was supporting Al-Qaeda in eastern Libya in order to seize the oil there.

While stating that Libya’s sovereignty, dignity and safety would not be compromise, Zeidan today said that Libya would always grateful for the role that Qatar had played in 2011. [/restrict]
