Emirates flies back to Libya

By Hadi Fornaji.

Tripoli, 28 May 2013:

UAE carrier Emirates is to . . .[restrict]start flying between Tripoli and Dubai, three times a week from 1 September, with a stopover in Malta.

This is the second time that the airline has announced the return of flights that were suspended in February 2011. Last August Emirates said it was coming back to Libya with four flights a week starting in October. The 11 September murder of US ambassador Christ Steven and three colleagues in Benghazi caused that plan to be abandoned.

However Jean Lu Grillet,  Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for Africa said today: “We have been closely monitoring the situation in Libya and feel that the time is right to re-launch our services, which will help to support business, international trade and passenger travel to and from Tripoli, as well as strengthening the country’s overall infrastructure.”

The new Libyan schedule, served by a Boing 777-200ER in a three-class configuration, will run every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Flight EK745 will leave Dubai at 0930 hrs arriving in Malta at 1325 hrs. The service will depart Malta 1445 hrs arriving in Tripoli at 1555 hrs. The return flight will leave Tripoli International Airport at 1725 hrs and will land in Dubai at 0100 hrs.

Since May last year, Emirates’ cargo division has been running flights into Tripoli. [/restrict]
