By Sami Zaptia.

Tripoli, 10 July 2013:

Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said that the Isnad brigade will continue to be paid until the . . .[restrict]end of the year, but will be confined to their bases.

Zeidan was speaking at Sunday’s press conference, with reference to GNC Law No. (27) which stipulates that all armed groups, except official army and police, are to empty their sites and leave Tripoli.

There had been confusion when two different official rulings seemed to contradict one another. First Law No. (27) stipulated that all military groups must disband and leave the capital Tripoli, then another decision came out saying that the Isnad brigades had an extension until 31 December 2013.

Zeidan clarified at the press conference that the extension applied soley to their pay but not to their activities. They are to remain within their bases.

Zeidan and his Electricity Minister Ali Muhairig, who heads the Committee charged with implementing GNC Law No. (27), were keen to relay the impression that the armed grouping agreed with the law that disbands them or forces them out of the capital.

Law 27 stipulates that all armed groups must disband and are free to apply to join the police or army individually and that they must leave their sites in Tripoli – by the end of 2013.

This law was passed by the GNC at the end of June after serious clashes occured between armed groups within Tripoli. [/restrict]
