By Sami Zaptia,

Tripoli, 14 May 2013:

A report by the Ministry of Defence analyzing the site of the previously thought car bomb . . .[restrict]in the car park of Al-Jala Hospital in Benghazi yesterday, concludes that the explosion was not intentional.

The forensic report states that the explosion was caused by a type of ammunition found in tanks estimated to have been between 15-20 kgs. The report also estimated the area covered by the explosion at more than 300 metres.

It is thought that the tank ammunition was being transported when somehow it was caused to explode killing those transporting it in the car.

Late yesterday Health Minister Nouredin Doughman visited those injured by the explosion in two Benghazi hospitals. The number of dead has now been revised to only three with fourteen injured.

Of the fourteen injured, all but three have been released. Those still in hospital suffer from a broken bone, burns and an eye injury, respectively.

Meanwhile angry locals have blamed the government and its bodies as well as the GNC for the responsibility for failing to provide adequate protection to the city. They have also called for the dissolution of the Local Council.

There are also demands that Chief of Staff Yousef Mangoush resigns for failing to activate the army in the city. Mangoush is slated to be replaced by the GNC early next month.

Benghazi inhabitants have further called for the Army’s Commando Special Forces to be used to protect the city in view of the security vacuum. [/restrict]
