Tripoli, 31 July 2013:
The new Chief of Staff Colonel Abdulsalam Jad Allah Al-Salheen Al-Obaidi was yesterday promoted to the rank of Major-General of the Libyan Army.
He was then sworn in as Chief of Staff at a ceremony attended by President of the General National Congress (GNC), Nuri Abu Sahmain; Deputy President, Saleh Makhzoum, and a number of other GNC members.
Al-Obaidi had been chosen to be Minister of Defence by the first Prime Minister-elect, Mustafa Abushagur. However, Abushagur was ousted via a vote of no confidence before his proposed government ever took office. [/restrict]
