Tripoli, 26 September 2013:
A hundred Libyan students have been awarded Italian grants to study at universities in Italy – and a reception on Tuesday at the Italian ambassador’s residence ceremony marking the award was attended by many of the students as well as by the head of the Libyan Association of Alumni of Italian Universities, Salah Zarough. Members of the association were also there.
The students, both male and female, have been selected in collaboration with the Libyan Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Starting in October and November, they will be heading to universities in Ancona, Bolognia, Camerino, Florence, Milan, Perugia, Rome and Turin.
Around 50 of them are going to the University for Foreigners in Perugia where they will be studying Italian with the aim of becoming Italian language and culture teachers at high schools back in Libya.

The courses are set to take between two and three years, but 13 of the students who have previous teaching experience are expected to master Italian in a one-year course.
The other students will be studying engineering, archaeology, political science and tourism marketing.
The students said were looking forward to going to Italy and studying there. Their only worry, they felt, was the cost of living there.
