Security is Libya is a massive challenge, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan admitted today. He was speaking at the . . .[restrict]press conference at which he revealed names of some of those involved in the failed plot to kidnap him and try and force him to resign.
He accused some militias and other unnamed forces, including some within Congress and official departments, of deliberately trying to prevent the government rebuilding the country’s security apparatus and create an effective army and police force. Even those bodies had been “infiltrated”, he said, by such forces.
As a result of security not being assured, Libya was not a state in the normal sense of the word, he said.
Referring to the raft of assassinations, mainly in the east, he said that some people had been arrested and that there had been plans to name those involved in trying to “to hijack the state”. But the government had decided that it was not the right time to reveal the forces attempting to destabilise Libya. It will put other people in danger.
