Benghazi, 3 November 2013:

People gathered outside Benghazi’s Tibesti Hotel this evening, calling on local residents to take action after . . .[restrict]the murder of a family in a car blast late this afternoon.

Sulaiman Ahmed Al-Fsaee and three members of his family, including his two year-old child, died after their vehicle was targeted with a remotely-detonated explosive device.

The protestors outside the Tibesti, mainly young men, held hand-written placards for passing cars to read. They also chanted slogans including: “Stop sleeping, sons of Benghazi, do something,” and: “If you don’t do something, you could be next.”

One protestor pointed out that men were being killed on an almost daily basis in Benghazi. “We don’t even have an army because all the men are being killed,” he said. “What are we waiting for?”

Reports are circulating on social media networks that Fsaee’s wife and youngest child survived the explosion and are in hospital. However, spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room Abdullah Zaidi has confirmed twice to the Libya Herald that they both died in hospital.

The killing of a whole family, including a two year-old, today has provoked a strong local response (Photo:
