Journalists in Libya continue to be exposed to a constant threat of violence in the . . .[restrict]course of their work and should be given greater protection by the government, said Reporters Without Borders.
Condemning the murder of Radwan Ali Gharani, the owner and manager of Tripoli FM who was found on Sunday shot dead body in a Tripoli suburb, RWB demanded the police investigate the murder and bring the killers to justice.
Co-founder of Tripoli FM and the station’s development director, Rabee Dahan was quoted by RWB as saying: “ We have no idea who might have committed this crime. Radwan had not received any recent threats and we were not really worried by the threats that he had received in the past”.
A week after the United Nations General Assembly passed its first-ever resolution on the safety of journalists, RWB said that it urged the Libyan authorities to take all necessary measures to guarantee the protection of journalists working in Libya and to end the prevailing impunity.
Something approaching a thousand people attended 44-year old Gharani’s funeral today at Al-Hinsheer, Tripoli. [/restrict]
