Tebu demonstrators on the Kufra-Ajdabiya road have denied claims that they include former members of the . . .[restrict]Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG).
Reports surfaced on Tuesday that Tebu protestors at the Sarir Power Station had previously belonged to the PFG. Activists and demonstrators have, however, vigorously denied this.
Husain Aya, a Tebu rights activist and teacher from Kufra, told the Libya Herald that the demonstrators on the Kufra-Ajdabiya road were civilians, members of civil society organisations and students. He said that not a single demonstrator had been a member of the PFG.
Othman Mai, spokesman for the demonstrators, said that the nature of the protest had been misunderstood. He said that although the sit-in had taken place in a strategic location, there had never been a military presence amongst the protestors.
Hassan Trowey, a cleric and resident in the Al-Sweedia district of Kufra said that Tebus would continue to demonstrate at Sarir because they had lost faith in the government. He added that Kufra was in dire need of basic services and a solution to ongoing security problems, which Tripoli had neglected. [/restrict]
