Ericsson and Nokia Siemens to be awarded 3.75G mobile broadband contracts

Tripoli, 5 March 2014:

Mobile phone giants Ericsson and Nokia Siemens have signed letters of intent with the Ministry of . . .[restrict]Communications to upgrade the national mobile internet infrastructure over the next 18 months.

Deputy Communications Minister Mohamed Benrasali, who is in charge of telecommunications, told the Libya Herald that contracts would be signed with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens in six weeks’ time to introduce 3.75G mobile broadband. He said the network would be divided into two halves with Nokia Siemens developing radio and transmission infrastructure in the east and Ericsson the west.

He added that the upgrade would take place in three stages with mobile internet introduced in Tripoli, Beida, Zawia, Misrata, Benghazi and Sebha over the next six months.
