Tripoli, 9 March 2014:
At yesterday’s press conference, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan confirmed that the Rome conference . . .[restrict]was held by Libya’s friends to offer support to Libya.
It was not, as some had claimed, to hand Libya over to foreign states so that they can try to solve Libya’s problems.
Zeidan stated that all Libya’s bordering states were invited to Rome and that there would be a follow-up conference held in Tripoli with them to discuss border issues.
The friendly states confirmed their commitment to helping Libya, Zeidan explained, but added that Libya “must play its role in building its state. If we want the world to help us, we must help ourselves”.
Security issues as well as terrorism that is targeting Libya – “terrorism that has no religion, state or logic” – were discussed, he explained.
The Prime Minister confirmed that talks were held with Russia and seemed to indicate a warming of relations with Libya. With regards to China he emphasised that they were encouraged to activate their large construction projects.
