The Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni met yesterday in Tripoli with members of the exiled . . .[restrict]Tawergha Local Council to look into the plight of Tawerghan refugees across the country.
“We’ve met with the Prime Minister Al-Thinni yesterday,” Council Leader Abdurrahman Shikshak told the Libya Herald. “We discussed the humanitarian crisis facing Tawerghan refugees across the country and we also discussed the decision agreeing that Tawergha should have a municipality of its own.”
According to Shikshak, Thinni was told that Tawerghans insisted on their right to return home and that they would not accept new houses being built in the present refugee camps. They were not safe, he said.
“We discussing the security situation of Tawerghan refugees camps, and we stated our total rejection of building homes for Tawerghans in the camps, he added
“I demand Libya’s wise men and those in power to pay greater attention to our daily suffering in the refuge camps,” he said.
According to Shikshak, Al-Thinni was “very understanding” about their complaints and grievances, and “unlike [former Prime Minister Ali] Zeidan did not make any promises”.
Some 40,000 Tawerghans fled their homes in August 2011 when the town was attacked by Misratan forces in revenge for having support the attacks on Misrata during the revolution. It is now a ghost town. [/restrict]
