Tripoli, 11 April 2014:
Ten prisoners who were being taken from Ain Zara’s Ruwaimi jail to . . .[restrict]the public prosecutor’s office managed to escape yesterday when an armed group attacked the vehicles transporting them.
The gunmen intercepted the vehicles in the Tripoli district of Fallah and started shooting randomly at the judicial police in the convoy. The prisoners managed to escape in the ensuing chaos.
No casualties were reported.
The incident is an almost exact copy of another eight months ago when some 18 prisoners managed to escape after a judicial police vehicle taking them back to Ain Zara prison from the prosecutor’s office was ambushed by masked gunmen.
The judicial police have been demanding armored vehicles and bullet prove vests to protect them while transferring prisoners between jail to the courts. [/restrict]
