In a bid to keep electricity flowing in the south of the country, maintenance . . .[restrict]operations are now underway on turbines at the Sarir Power Station.
The work, which is being undertaken by Libyan operator Jessco, started in April and includes both repairs and maintenance to two turbines which are not currently functioning.
“We repaired the first turbine and connected it to the national grid, but it fell out of the network because of high loads,” deputy manager of the Sarir power station Khaled Al-Awjili told the Libya Herald. At present, only one turbine out of three was fully-operational, he added.
The power station was damaged when it was hit by rockets in January during tribally-motivated clashes. The continued unstable security situation in the area initially made it difficult for engineers to access the site to start repair work. [/restrict]
