Forces ranged against Operation Dignity will continue to try to resupply weapons by sea as . . .[restrict]their caches are destroyed in Benghazi, a senior Dignity source has said.
Local air force commander Saqr Adam Geroushi told the Libya Herald that the series of air assaults by Dignity forces on weapons and ammunition depots held by Ansar Al-Sharia and the Libya Shield had depleted their stockpiles. He said this was why extremist forces were now attempting to bring in more munitions by sea.
Two days ago airforce planes loyal to Operation Dignity destroyed at least one of two trawlers allegedly carrying weapons into the port of Derna. Geroushi said two other fishing vessels attempting to enter Benghazi port last month were similarly hit.
He said the ports at Derna and Sirte were particularly likely to be used for resupplying by Libya Shield and Ansar Al-Sharia because what he called “terrorist forces” were firmly in control there. He said the government had neglected the situation in these cities and had allowed extremists to become entrenched.
Geroushi said Operation Dignity would continue to intercept any vessels attempting to resupply its enemies. He also claimed there were still huge stockpiles of weapons in the Jabal Al-Akhdar at the disposal of Ansar Al-Sharia.
