Tripoli, 10 July 2014:

A former commander of the local Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade in Derna escaped death last night when . . .[restrict]gunmen shot at him in the town’s Karsa district.  Salem Derbi was unhurt.  The gunmen then fled.

It is not known who was responsible but Derna has seen bitter clashes between the brigade and Ansar Al-Sharia for the past few weeks. Exactly  a month ago, a leading member of Ansar, Al-Mahdi Abu Al-Abyad was killed in the struggle between the two groups. Two other members of Ansar were reported killed earlier this week.

Another Abu Sleem commander, Mohammed Abu Bilal, was reported killed when a bomb exploded under his car in the town’s Shara Al-Bahr.
