Tripoli, 29 August 2014: The rump of the General National Congress, which resurrected itself on Monday in . . .[restrict]opposition to the newly-elected House of Representatives, is setting up a committee to investigate whose warplanes attacked Libya Dawn positions last week in the final stages of the 43-day battle for Tripoli.
Omar Hmeidan, the GNC’s past and present spokesman told the Libya Herald: “This committee has been established by the GNC presidential office. Its job is to investigate the violations of Libyan airspace by foreign jets”.
Hmeidan said the six-member team is headed by Omar Mohamed Ali Abu Leefa. Leefa was one of the four Misratan members elected to the GNC in July 2012.
Hmeidan said the committee would collect pieces of missiles that had been fired at Dawn forces, contact the international community, get witness statements and build a dossier. He added that it would also look into how a prosecution could be mounted against the attackers.
