The House of Representatives (HoR) stressed today . . .[restrict]that its doors in Tobruk are open to all local and international media wishing to cover its sessions.
The Media Office issued a statement today saying that it will help members of the media in their coverage of HoR sessions as well as in arranging interviews.
Members of the media are expected to provide proof of official accreditation from their organization and a letter indicating that they are specifically covering the Libyan HoR, the statement said.
It will be recalled that since the loss of control over both the state satellite TV channels , Al-Wataniya and Al-Rasmiya, the Libyan state has been without an official TV channel.
As a result of the loss of control over its official TV channels to Islamist/anti HoR militias, the Libyan state was able to successfully persuade Nilesat to shut down the satellite transmissions of both stations.
This loss of its media outlets has meant that the official Libyan state, as represented by the HoR and the Abdullah Thinni government, has struggled to communicate its official messages to the Libyan public, relying instead on government and HoR websites and Facebook pages to disseminate its news.
In an effort to improve its media output, the HoR has also recently appointed Faraj Hashim as its official spokesperson. [/restrict]
