Tripoli, 28 September 2014:

Libyan Airline’s reported on its social media site that an unknown individual had broken into the . . .[restrict]office and stolen money yesterday.

Internal surveillance cameras captured the event on video and is being used to investigate the case.

Residents point out that with Eid approaching, people need money and that, given the lawlessness in the city and the general lack of security, it has become all too easy for common criminals to steal and attack. They also point out that with the banking system hardly operating, it was known that the Libyan Airlines office would have had a large amount of cash in the building.

In another case indicating the lack of security in the city, there was a murder in Leithi district last night. Bubark Al-Urfi was shot outside his home in the area. He was not involved in security and the reason for his murder is unknown. His brother, Walid Al-Urfi, is spokesman for the Illegal Migrants Department in Benghazi. There was an attempt to kill another brother, a member of Saiqa Special Forces, some months ago.

Also yesterday, a man who was staying with a patient at the Benghazi Medical Centre is alleged to have stabbed to death another patient with whom he had an argument. Neither has been named. The alleged killer has been arrested, the Libya Herald was told.

Also yesterday evening, a couple who were out driving near the city’s Hay Dollar district were shot and killed by gunmen. Faraj Zayed El-Drissi and his wife Manal died instantly but their two-year old daughter, said to have been in the front seat with her mother, survived. All were taken to Benghazi Medical Centre.  When helpers returned to pick up the car, however, it had disappeared.

Elsewhere in Benghazi last night, gunmen shot dead Sharafeddin Muftah Al-Salabi, who worked for the military in the city.  As in almost all other cases, his killers have not be identified.
