One of Operation Dignity’s field commanders has accused Ansar Al-Sharia, the Revolutionary Council in Benghazi and . . .[restrict]the Muslim Brotherhood of being under the control of ISIS, though he acknowledged that they directly follow their “guide”, Egyptian Islamic theologian, Yusef Al-Qaradawi and the Grand Mufti of Libya, Sadek Al-Ghariani.
In an interview with Sky News Arabia on Sunday, the Dignity field commander, Ashraf Almiar Hassi, accused the former General National Congress (GNC) of having funded ISIS, but provided no evidence. He claimed that a former agent of the Ministry of Defense and former leader of the Islamic Fighting Group, Khaled Al-Sharif, continued to support extremist groups. Furthermore, Hassi accused the Mayor of Tripoli, Almahdi Al-Harati, of bringing ISIS recruits into Libya with the support of Sudan, Qatar and Turkey. Again, there was no evidence.
“The national army in eastern Libya is not just fighting groups that are outside the law,” Hassi said. “They’re fighting groups from outside Libya — such as ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood — on Libyan soil”. He maintained that there was a stream of foreign fighters and extremist groups coming into Libya.
“A convoy of cars loaded with gunmen has crossed the Sudanese border heading toward Kufra to support these groups. The cars were filled with fighters from Yemen who are now camping in the desert between the border and Kufra,” asserted Hassi.
He went on to accuse the Sudanese government of supplying terrorist groups inside Libya with weapons transported through the Matiga, Sirte and Misrata airports – claims the Libyan government has also made. [/restrict]
