Amid rising concern that the increasing deterioration of the security situation inside Libya is creating . . .[restrict]opportunities for Islamic extremists to permeate the country’s border with Egypt, US Secretary of State John Kerry added a surprise meeting with Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Dairi to his Paris schedule.

Kerry was scheduled to fly into Paris from Cairo on Monday for meetings with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss the situations in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq and Libya. During the talks with Lavrov, it was agreed that the two nations would stand united in the fight against the threat of advancements by ISIS in the Middle East and North Africa.

Regarding Libya, Kerry said that the United States would continue to support Libya’s democratic transition and the democratically elected House of Representatives (HoR).  The French Foreign Minister expressed a similar sentiment and commended the efforts of the United Nation to mediate between the conflicting parties within Libya.
