Benghazi/Tripoli, 17 October 2014:

Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council (BRSC) the coalition of Islamist brigades battling . . .[restrict]pro-government forces in Benghazi has condemned the revenge killings of at least seven of its supporters by armed groups since Wednesday.

It has highlighted the murders of Abdel Salem Ben Sweidi and his three sons Mustafa, Khaled and Ibrahim who were shot dead in their home in Buhdeima on Wednesday morning.

BRSC has condemned the killings as “brutal acts” perpetuated by “enemies of God and religion who are without dignity”.

A local resident in Buhdeima told the Libya Herald that the four men were killed by government supporters.

He explained that it was believed the Sweidis, known supporters of Ansar Al-Sharia and BRSC, had been involved in a number of assassinations in Bohdema and its surroundings. BRSC has promised revenge for the attacks.

The Justice and Construction Party, the party platform for the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya has also condemned the politically-motivated attacks by armed government supporters in Benghazi.

The party has said it rejects the use of violence by the demonstrators and that armed groups are terrorising civilians.

“The Justice and Construction Party is clear that the the Libyan people have the right to demonstrate and express their opinion in any place so long as it is in a peaceful and civilised manner and does not harm the public interest,” it said. “Those calling for these demonstrations should bear full legal responsibility for the consequences of these actions.”

A further three men have been killed in the Majuri district where armed demonstrators have also been targeting BRSC supporters. Ali Al-Kersini was killed and his home destroyed in a fire after his building was besieged by gunmen.

Two others who have been identified only as Dasheni and Fersi have also even killed. They had been initially been captured by the Majuri residents but  died after they were taken prisoner. In photos circulating on social media the bodies of the two men show the signs of a beating.

They were taken to Benghazi Medical Centre where they were pronounced dead on arrival. [/restrict]
