Tripoli, 28 October 2014:
Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni, currently on a state visit to Sudan, will soon be visiting . . .[restrict]Russia as well.
Thinni will travel to Moscow at the end of October or sometime in November, to discuss both military assistance and business ventures.
Shortly after the announcement of his planned trip, the prime minister told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti that “Russia is Libya’s main partner in reforming the country’s armed forces,” adding that approximately 80% of all arms used by the Libyan Army come from Russia.
The Russian Ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotkov was in Beida yesterday at the head of a delegation that talked to Thinni about his up-coming visit. The prime minister was flanked by his ministers of foreign affairs, finance and planning, economy and industry and social affairs and health.
While in Beida, Molotkov also had talks with head of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly Ali Tarhouni. It is reported that Tarhouni updated the Russian envoy on the progress of the assembly and stressed that it remained independent body whose work has not been affected by the current events happening in the country.
