Tobruk, 3 November 2014:

Algeria and Libya have agreed that dialogue between the conflicting Libyan parties needs to be . . .[restrict]inclusive, it has been announced in Algiers following the visit there over the weekend of Ageela Saleh Gwaider, the president of the House of Congress.  He returned to Tobruk yesterday after two days of talks with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and other Algerian officials.

Saleh, who had been invited by the President of the Algerian National Assembly, was accompanies on his trip by Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Al-Dairi.

According to the Algerian news agency APS, Saturday’s talks focused on security matters as well as political issues, and the two sides are reported to have been of one one on what was needed.

The specifics of the discussions between the two sides have not been released.  However, yesterday, the same day that Saleh returned to Tobruk, the Algerian daily ?Elkhabar reported that Algeria had accepted a Libyan request to join the Egyptians in training the Libyan army.

For nearly two months, Algeria has been saying that it plans to organise a meeting of the various different parties to the conflict in Libya in order to find a solution. However, this was meant to take place before the end of October and the month has come and gone without any such meeting.  According to the Algerian press, unexpected “difficulties” arose, preventing talks.
