The House of Representatives (HoR) has decided to reinstate retired General Khalifa Hafter, the head of . . .[restrict]Operation Dignity, and Brigadier Saqr Adam Geroushi, Air Force Commander of the national armed forces, an HoR has claimed.
HoR representative Muftah Al-Gwieder was reported saying that the decision, apparently made last week, was part of a wider move to reinstate 17 officers into the Libyan Army.
The decision has come a week after the HoR confirmed again publicly that it had legitimised Hafter’s Operation Dignity.
The HoR has in fact been formally allied with Operation Dignity since August when it appointed the then Colonel, now Mjor-General, Abdul Razzaq Nazhuri as Chief of Staff. At the time he was one of Hafter’s deputies,
The reinstatement by the HoR of Hafter into the Libyan army in effect removes questions of the authority under which Hafter operates going forward.
For its part, the Misrata Municipal Council has today demanded that the United Nations impose the “strongest possible sanctions on the so-called General Hafter and all his supporters who help him to terrorise, kill and displace innocent people”.
It has also been reported, in response to the HoR decision, that a prosecutor in Tripoli has issued an arrest warrant for Hafter. [/restrict]
