The Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC), which has struggled to keep an adequate stock of medical . . .[restrict]supplies in recent months, has been forced to draw from the storage closets at the now-closed 7 October Hospital to keep up with the growing influx of patients.
BMC is currently one of only two fully operational hospital in Benghazi apart from the Jalaa Hospital, now that the Jumhouriya Hospital, in the middle the embattled Sabri district, has been forced to close. Hawari Hospital is also not fully functioning.
The labour and delivery staff at Jumhouriya has now moved over to BMC, having covered approximately half of the obstetrics and gynaecology cases during January. The extra hands were certainly needed, as there were around 1,500 births at the hospital last month, with almost a third of these Caesarean sections, compared to 806 births during the natal unit’s first month in November.
