Beida, 25 March 2015:

Thieves made away with LD 7 million from the Sahara Bank in Sebha on Monday night, . . .[restrict]Jamal Al-Zarouq, an employee at the Gumhouriya Bank told the Libya Herald.

The LD 7 million had only been transferred to the bank that morning.

According to Zarouq, the risk of robberies at the bank was high.

“The Sahara Bank is quite large, and guarded by only one security guard,” he explained.

Nevertheless, although bank security is minimal, the Sebha security directorate is only a few metres away from the bank.

The Sahara Bank and other banks in the south have seen a series of bank robberies in recent months. It is believed that in most cases, they are alleged to have been inside jobs, involving bank employees.

Last October thieves stole half a million Libyan dinars after attacking a Sahara Bank delivery truck on the outskirts of Sebha on its way to Bank in Brak Al-Shatti.
