The House of Representatives (HoR) has voted to accept the returning eight Representatives that had . . .[restrict]previously boycotted its sessions in Tobruk.
It will be recalled that on 15 March eight Representatives had chosen to end their boycott of the HoR by travelling to the seat of the HoR in the eastern city of Tobruk.
In the session set aside specifically to debate and vote on the issue of whether or not to accept the boycotting Representatives, 72 Representatives out of 80 present at Monday`s session voted in favour of allowing the boycotters to take up their seats in the HoR.
Reports from Tobruk reveal that there was some strong opposition from some HoR members to accepting the boycotters since strictly speaking the internal regulations would have barred them from taking up their seats in view of the number of sessions they had missed.
However, the majority saw the acceptance of the boycotting Representatives as a conciliatory move that would both strengthen the UN-mediated Libya dialogue and strengthen the HoR´s claim as the sole legislative body in Libya.
The eight Representatives are:
- Jamal Al-Usta – Tajura
- Abdullah Al-Lafi – Zawia
- Siddig Hamuda – Sug il Juma
- Ali Al-Tikali – Ain Zara
- Musbah Doma – Sebha
- Abdulgader Hiba – Ghadames
- Aisha Shalabi – Zawia
- Sara Swayah – Janzur
