UNICEF has signed Memorandums of Understanding with the mayors of Benghazi and Janzour, entering into . . .[restrict]a partnership to provide programmes that offer support to children and their families.
Benghazi Mayor Omar El Barasi and Janzour Mayor Belaid Touba met in Tunis with UNICEF Special Representative in Libya Ghassan Khalil to sign the MOUs, which came as a result of agreements made at the recent Brussels meetings hosted by the EU.
UNICEF will work with Benghazi and Janzour municipalities to provide services to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of displaced children as well as to assist the host communities. They will also focus on improving education and psychosocial services, establishing child friendly spaces and upgrading protection services for children.
Two more MOUs were signed with other municipalities and will be announced soon.
Khalil stated, “The launch of the partnership with municipalities will undoubtedly strengthen our work towards upholding children’s rights in Libya.” [/restrict]
