Gharyan has prolonged the . . .[restrict]closure of higher education institutes in the area, including the Western Mountains (Jebel Nafusa) University campus, because of continued fighting in the area.
The Mayor of Gharyan, Yousef Budeiri, closed them last week having earlier declared a state of emergency because of shelling in the area. At the time he said the closure would last just one week. He has now had to extend it for another week. The situation will be reassessed next Saturday, 9 May.
The university also closed for a week at the end of March because the fighting.
Again, however, the latest closure does not extend to schools. They will operate normally, Budeiri has said. Despite the continued colleges’ closure, life in the town had returned to normal, he said, with shops, cafés and petrol stations operating as per usual. The internet and mobile phone services were also back in action.
