French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet has said that his country plans to help Libya control its 4,000-km land border. His coment followed . . .[restrict]a meeting with NTC chairman Mustafa Abdul Jalil
The plan was “in the interests of Libya, France and Europeas a whole,” Longuet said, adding that the Libyan authorities had promised they  would work to ensure Libya did not become “a bridgehead for the smuggling of weapons and drugs.”
He stressed that France was ready to provide all the necessary support and surveillance equipment as well as the training of the Libyan army officers for the task.
He said that he would also visit areas of Libya to look into the possibility of military cooperation, adding that that the first stage would be to a working Franc0-Libyan working group,
A military MOU is scheduled to be signed between Longuet and Libyan Defence Minister Osama Juwaili on Sunday.
