Tripoli, March 29: The Libyan Central Bank set up an account on Wednesday to enable people to repay the money awarded . . .[restrict]to them erroneously as a compensation for leaving their work and joining the uprising last year.
This follows the fatwa issued last Thursday by the Grand Mufti of Libya, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, stating that it was haram (illegal) for anyone who had not fought in last year’s revolution to take payment. If they had done so they must hand the money back to the Central Bank of Libya, he ruled. Sheikh Ghariani also said rued the amount of money revolutionaries could take depended on the number of months they had fought for the revolution.
Last month the NTC announced that everyone who had taken part in the revolution last year would receive a payment: LD 4000 for married fighters and LD 2,400 for unmarried ones.
The Libyan Central Bank has told those who have decided to pay back the money to go to any of its branches and deposit the funds in account number 1012103127.
