Tripoli, 27 April:

Members of the national army staged a protest at Martyrs Square in Tripoli on Thursday to commemorate assassinated former . . .[restrict]chief-of-staff, Major General Abdel-Fattah Yunis. With his two companions, Yunis was murdered last July.   The demonstrators called for both the uncovering of the circumstances of his assassination and the full implementation of the national army’s role throughout the country  .

The demonstration coincided with the opening the previous day of the court martial trial of Salem Obeidi, accused of Yunis’ murder.  He is the only one of 17 suspects to have been arrested.

Assistant commander of the Revolutionaries’ Security Battalion of the National Army, Musbah Zurgani, said: “We came out today to request the NTC and the government to activate the role of the national army and to the demand the NTC to reveal the circumstances surrounding the death of Major General Abdel-Fattah Younis and his two companions, and to swiftly disclose the facts behind his death.”
