Tripoli, 28 December:

Recruits from the new Oil Asset Protection Unit celebrated their graduation at the training centre in Misrata yesterday, Libyan . . .[restrict]news agency LANA reported.

The graduates were the first batch for the new unit, which is itself a part of the Ministry of Interior’s Oil Installations Guard.

Officers from Misrata’s military council, as well as local military police and air force units attended the ceremony yesterday, where some 200 recruits completed their four-month training course.

The men are understood to have been recruited from local revolutionaries who had previously been absorbed into the military police and the Oil Installations Guard. [/restrict]
