Tripoli, 25 May 2013:

Staff from the Central Bank’s branch in Sebha and from the National Commercial Bank’s (NCB) branches operating in . . .[restrict]the region staged a protest on Thursday after thieves stole a reported LD 2 million. The money was being taken from the NCB’s regional Sebha headquarters to another branch.

The vehicle transporting the cash was held up en route near Ghadwa south of Sebha. There had been little security and many locals are suggesting that the heist may have been an inside job.

At the protest, speakers complained about the lack of security and protection at banks, and generally in the region, and called on the competent authorities to pursue and arrest the criminals. [/restrict]
