Tripoli, 11 July 2013:
Germany is looking to help Libya ensure its nuclear facilities are completely safe, after meetings between . . .[restrict]the countries on securing radioactive material.
The German Society for Reactor Safety (GRS) is offering to share its experience in securing and making safe radioactive sources with the Libyan Atomic Energy Establishment (AEE).
For over a year the GRS and the AEE have been discussing cooperation on the safety of Libya’s nuclear facilities, such as the 1980s Russian-made 10MW research reactor at the Libyan Nuclear Research Centre in Tajoura. No formal agreement has yet been made, however, according to a spokesperson for the German embassy in Tripoli,.
“The goal of our cooperation with Libya in this field is to increase the protection of the facilities and of the nuclear material against sabotage and illicit access,” German ambassador to Libya, Christian Much said after a recent visit to the Libyan Nuclear Research Centre. [/restrict]
