By Hadi Fornaji.

Tripoli, 23 August 2013:

The President of Congress, Nuri Abu Sahmain, in his new capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan . . .[restrict]armed forces, today ordered all military personnel to refrain from involvement in any ideological, political or communal conflict. According to the Libyan news agency LANA, he said that the army belonged to the country as whole, not to any party, sect or group.

In Decision No. 3/2013, he banned members of the military from attending political meetings whether as speakers or in the audience, except with written permission from Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff. He ordered General Staff, the Military Police and military intelligence ensure the ruling was carried out and to prosecute all offenders.

In a further decision, No.4/2013, he called on all Libyan army units to warn all their associate members against being absent from morning parades. [/restrict]
