Dughman welcomed the “more than 22 nations” participating in the show saying that “the exhibition confirms an important means to see new technology and especially in the healthcare sector where technology progresses at a fast rate”.
“This exhibition is an important opportunity for those in the sector to keep up to date with technology and know-how which should reflect positively on Libya’s health sector”.
Minister Dughman highlighted the conference on “safety and security in the healthcare sector” attached to the exhibition saying that “this conference is important”.
“We never thought hospitals would become a battleground”, the Minister said, referring to the numerous incidents of insecurity at hospitals across the country. “This has never happened in history. Hospitals had always kept their sanctity”, the Minister complained.
“If (Libyan) citizens do not find the required healthcare at hospitals, it is not the healthcare personnel’s fault”, he explained. “If anything it is our fault”, he added. “This means that this (insecurity at the healthcare sector) is aimed at the security of the state and not the health sector “, he explained.
Dughman then went out of his way to thank Libya’s healthcare employees. “I pay respect to the healthcare sector despite the challenges, insults and threats they receive during their jobs. Despite this they choose to remain in Libya and perform a national duty”.
The opening ceremony at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds was attended by about 200 people including Prime Minister Ali Zeidan, Economy Minister Mustafa Abufunas, numerous ambassadors, GNC members, and healthcare representatives.
