The government has announced that Monday, 16 September, which is Martyrs’ Day, will be a public . . .[restrict]holiday throughout the country.
The date marks the anniversary in 1931 of the execution in 1931 of Omar Mukhtar who fought against the Italian colonial forces but has become the day when all Libyan martyrs are commemorated..
Alternative arrangements for those who have to work on 16 September are being made. [/restrict]
