Tripoli, 6 September 2013:
The Prime Minister, Ali Zeidan, flew to Cairo yesterday to discuss border security and economic cooperation . . .[restrict]with his Egyptian counterpart Hazem Biblawi.
Cross-border smuggling and infiltration in both directions are of major concern to both governments. The two sides yesterday stressed the importance of coordinating control over the border region, calling it “a national security issue”.
The latest developments in the region were also reportedly discussed. In addition, the two premiers also agreed to talks, at a later date, involving experts from both sides on common security issues.
The Libyan ambassador to Egypt, Mohamed Faiz Jibril, has been quoted saying that Zeidan’s talks did not cover the situation in Egypt, that it was limited to relations between the two countries.
Zeidan was accompanied by the Libyan Minister of Defence Abdullah Al-Thani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Abdulaziz. [/restrict]
