Tripoli, 26 January 2014:

Fireworks, car horns and celebratory gunfire could be heard across Tripoli tonight after Libya beat Gabon, propelling them through to their first every CAF African Nations Championship semi-final.

A nail-biting finish saw Libya beat Gabon on penalties, after a exciting match which, after extra time, had left the score at a 1-1 draw.

Libya will face Zimbabwe in the semi-finals on 29 January and on the same day Ghana will play Nigeria. The final will be in Cape Town on 1 February.

Tonight’s win was an opportunity for all Libyan people to unite over a national success in the country’s favourite sport. [/restrict]
