Tripoli, 1 January 2014:

As of 9 am today the High National Elections Commission HNEC has registered . . .[restrict]1,001,910 people on the SMS voter registration system.

Of these, 594,960 (59.4%) are men and 406,950 (40.6%) are women.

Outside of Libya 5,131 have been registered to vote, of which 3,563 are men and 1,568 are women.

The highest rate of registrations on any single day so far was on 31 December with a total of 85,729.

By contrast, in the July 2012 GNC elections, of the estimated 3.3 million eligible voters, 2.866 million  registered to vote. Forty-five percent were women.
