Tripoli, 18 April 2014:

Benghazi Ansar Al-Sharia member Mohamed Suleiman Tajouri was shot and killed in Derna’s Harish area on . . .[restrict]Wednesday.

A source at Derna’s Harish Hospital told the Libya Herald Tagouri was pronounced dead on arrival and had been shot a number of times. The source said gunmen in a black Chevrolet Optra had opened fire on a car Tagouri was travelling in with two associates. They were not harmed in the attack.

There are indications that a friend of Tajouri who was in the car with him, Hani Al-Hawari, who is a member of the  Army of the Islamic State of Libya, was the intended  target of the attack, and not Tajouri.  He is reported to have been slightly injured.

The shooting may be linked to an ongoing power struggle in Derna between Islamist groups, in which a number of people have been killed.

Earlier this month Ali Abdullah Ben Tahir, a leader in the newly formed Shoura Council of Islamic Youth in Derna, was found dead on the outskirts of the eastern town. Tahir’s organisation, the Army of the Islamic State of Libya, was one of three groups which combined to form the Shoura Council of Islamic Youth and made a recent show of force in Derna, parading through the town with technicals and other vehicles.
