Benghazi, 7 September 2014:
The commander of the Benghazi-based Omar Mukhatr Brigade, Ziyad Belaam, was seriously wounded in an assassination . . .[restrict]bid last night outside his home in the city’s Salmani district. He is said have been hit twice in the shoulder and was taken to the Benghazi Medical Centre.
It is not known who was responsible. The brigade has been allied with Ansar Al-Sharia, the 17 February Brigade and Libya Shield No 1 against Operation Dignity and the Saiqa Brigade, and there have been reports that relatives of those who have been assassinated by Islamists in the city have now started taking revenge.
However, it is also alleged that there has been a falling 0ut between Ansar and the Omar Mukhtar Brigade over weapons.
